| The Award shall be made every year to a member of the RACI who, in the opinion of the judging committee (the President, Past President, President-Elect, and most recent awardee) has contributed significantly towards the economic advancement of the Australian economy through work in the chemistry area. This contribution shall be judged on evidence in reports submitted to the adjudicating panel (who may seek referees reports). The contribution of the member shall be interpreted broadly and may include contributions to policy development, commercial activity and technology transfer. Contribution through the work as part of the RACI should be highlighted. The successful candidate will deliver a lecture at a suitable occasion. The Award shall consist of a medal, named the Weickhardt Medal. Leonard William Weickhardt (1908-2000) joined the RACI in 1932 after studying chemistry at the The University of Melbourne and was elected a Fellow in 1944. He joined ICI in 1935 and was R&D Director from 1955-70. Dr Weickhardt was Chancellor of The University of Melbourne 1972-78, Chair of the Victorian Advisory Council of CSIRO for several years, President of the RACI NSW Branch in 1948, RACI National President in 1958 and the Leighton medalist 1968. Nominations and supporting documentation must be submitted to the National Office, 1/21 Vale Street, North Melbourne, Victoria 3051, no later than 5 pm Eastern Standard Time on 30th April.
