Welcome to ...

Welcome to the home page of the Western Australia Branch of The Royal Australian Chemical Institute Inc (RACI).

The RACI was founded in January 1917 and is both the Australian qualifying body for professional chemists and a learned society promoting the science and practice of chemistry in all its branches. The Institute was granted a Royal Charter in 1932 and has almost ten thousand chemists in industry, government, universities and the teaching profession.

The WA Branch has over 600 members and has active groups in the areas of Analytical Chemistry, Chemical Education, Health, Safety and Environment, Management and Career Development and Tertiary Students Group. These groups regularly organise seminars, laboratory visits and social functions to meet others and keep abreast of technical developments in their related fields of interest. .

You can find out more about the current activities of the Branch by contacting one of the members of the Branch Committee.

You can also keep up-to-date by reading the online version of the WA Branch Newsletter, which is produced monthly and emailed to all WA RACI members.

Title:           "All That Is Solid Melts into Air…” Or “Double, double toil and trouble; Fire burn, and cauldron bubble…”

So said Karl Marx and the three witches in the Scottish Play, but not at the same time obviously! Both though give us a profound insight into the dramatic nature of chemical change that surrounds us every day.  So, having digested our Marx and Shakespeare over breakfast, we will with thunder and lightning, magical transformations, tricks of light and colour, demonstrate for your enjoyment and amazement this Magical World of Chemistry.

But Karl, of course, would not approve of such mysticism! So, we will introduce to you, through a series of spectacular demonstrations, the marvels of molecular transformations that define our world and underpin the science of Chemistry. Be ready to be amazed, but rely not on supernatural manifestations and mumbo-jumbo! Two modern Scots (Australianised!) will bring you the wonder and joys of Chemistry, intercalated and thoroughly homogenised with earthly scientific understanding. For which, I am sure, Karl will applaud and the witches turn us into toads.
