Through our national awards program we recognise and promote the contributions and achievements of our members.

The RACI National Awards nominations open on 1 April and close 30 June.

We encourage you to apply, nominate and to pass on the information to members that you feel should be recognised.

Please note, nomination should follow the spirit of the San Francisco Declaration on Research Assessment (DORA) [view here] and the award adjudicators will consider a wide range of output measurements.  

For awards setting career time limits as criteria the ARC’s Research Opportunity and Performance Evidence parameters [ROPE] will be used to adjudicate any career interruptions experienced [including those resulting from Covid regulations].  [View here]

    • Given to a member of the RACI who has contributed significantly towards the development of, or innovation through, applied research, or in industrial fields.

  • C.S. Piper Award (awarded every even year)

    • For the best published original research work carried out mainly in Australia in the fields of soil chemistry or the mineral nutrition of plants.

  • Cornforth Medal

    • The medal, bearing the words "For a Thesis on Chemical Research", recognises outstanding achievement in chemistry and to promote chemical communication.

    • Recognises contribution to the development of some branch of chemical science.

    • Recognises excellence in research in chemical science.

  • Catalyst Award

    • This award is designed to recognise an early career chemist for outstanding innovation in Applied Chemistry in the workplace (industrial, commercial, government or education). "someone who incites action or activity in the Chemical arena".

  • RACI Welcome Award

    • To honour and welcome a chemist who is new to Australia, works in Australia, and has done so for up to 3 years (career breaks up to 6 years will be considered).  The applicant should be at a career stage where they would qualify for election as a Fellow of the RACI.  Only work performed in Australia will be considered.
