 Format: Four speakers,  each speaker will present for approximately 15mins, with question time at the end of the session.

 

Part 1:  Development of a new contraceptive, from concept to FDA Approval and market-

Sanjay will discuss the story of his research into the development of a new vaginal gel, recently approved by the US FDA as the first and only non-hormonal contraceptive.

Presented by Sanjay Garg, Professor of Pharmaceutical Science, University of South Australia 

Prof Sanjay Garg is a pharmaceutical scientist with interest and expertise in patient-centric drug delivery in humans and animals. 

He leads the Centre for Cancer Diagnostics and Therapeutics (CCTD) at the University of South Australia. (http://people.unisa.edu.au/sanjay.garg)

 

Part 2: Control of Nitrosamines in Pharmaceutical Products

Control of nitrosamine impurities is a new requirement for pharmaceutical products. Different and rapidly evolving regulations across the globe, very low limits and analytical complexities all contribute

to a significant challenge for the industry. A summary of the current regulatory requirements and nitrosamine chemistry will be presented.

 

Presented by Julia Lock, Senior Scientific Lead: Analytical, Mayne Pharma

Julia is an analytical chemist with a background in both organic and inorganic chemistry. Julia completed a BSc (Hons) and PhD at the University of Adelaide and postdoctoral studies at the University of Edinburgh, UK. Since 2007 Julia has worked at Mayne Pharma International in Salisbury, where she is currently employed as Senior Scientific Lead, Analytical.

 

Part 3: Basic strategies for reducing time and cost during commercialisation of your product development projects

Want to spend more time value adding to your product development and less time doing support activities?

Using lessons learnt, several simple strategies will be presented to increase the efficiency of your PD process to help build a collaborative, and effective NPD process.

 

Presented by Paul Kent, Product and Technical Manager, Avenir Ingredients

With more than 20 years of experience in the cosmetic and pharmaceutical industry, Paul is a Research and Development Leader passionate about developing and mentoring innovative and inspiring teams of chemists and engineers. Skilled in natural formulations, sunscreens, product innovation, scale up, vendor management and clinical trial design, Paul also has more than 10 years of experience in the premium natural skin care market. Paul focuses on reducing time to market while ensuring product quality, education of sales and marketing teams on product technology and all phases of the new product development process enabling greater time to be spent developing new product concepts. 

 

Part 4: Challenges associated with R&D in a customer-driven SME

Presented by Damien Rankine, Research&Quality Manager, Dominant

Damien Rankine is the Research and Quality Manager at Dominant Chemicals, and is responsible for the design of new cleaning and personal care products (liquids, powders and tablets), as well as overseeing quality management and regulatory compliance for the business.

Damien completed a PhD in Materials Chemistry in 2015 under Professor Christopher Sumby before moving into the chemical manufacturing industry, and has been lucky enough to lead a team of chemists on a broad range of development projects that have delivered new products to some prominent, internationally-recognised brands.
