VCE Chemistry Teachers' Professional Learning Day

You are invited to prepare for the new VCE Chemistry Study Design:

  • Hear from an expert in extracting and testing useful chemicals from native plants.
  • Test out some new laboratory investigations on extracting plant materials (including detailed notes on the investigations and possible extensions)
  • Test out some new laboratory investigations on extracting and testing chemicals such as antioxidants from plant material. Extraction techniques will include TLC and distillations.
  • View IR, HPLC, MS and NMR instruments at RMIT and observe the use of some of these to test plant extracts.
  • Participate in the analysis of some of the data collected.
  • Take home detailed notes, data and other resources you can use in the classroom (included in fees).
  • Participate in a workshop on a key new aspect of the Study Design with Maria James.
  • Network with other teachers - including sharing resources and ideas.
  • Gain accreditation for your professional learning.
