Come to WA Branch Chemaraderie October 2023
Why choose Industry?
5.30pm Tuesday 17 October 2023
Speakers include:
Dr Brad Smith – CSBP
Brad graduated from UWA in 1998 with a PhD in chemistry and started his scientific career restoring planes, before settling down to more conventional employment with a small chemical consultancy. A change of direction saw a move into the Marine and Protective Coatings industry for a number of years before moving once again into the fertiliser and chemicals industry.
Currently he is employed by CSBP Limited as the Senior Chemist for their Fertiliser Division. This role involves taking an idea or concept and evaluating it in the laboratory, seeing it through production and then supporting its commercialisation. Part of the evaluation process will involve crop (field) testing and the production phase will invariably require new plant and equipment, which means a typical week can go from building new equipment to watching wheat grow. He also provides technical guidance on all things chemical to the various departments of the company.
Dr Adam Martin – PYC Therapeutics
Dr Adam Martin is currently Senior Director of Chemistry at PYC Therapeutics. He has over 10 years’ experience in peptide therapeutics, encompassing therapeutic design, manufacturing, display technologies and conjugates. He currently heads PYC Therapeutic’s manufacturing and chemistry operations, in addition to its peptide discovery platform.
Dr Martin has published over 50 peer reviewed papers and is the author of several patents. He has been awarded over $5M in research grant funding and received numerous prizes, including the Nyholm Lectureship from the Royal Australian Chemical Institute and the Young Investigator Award from the Australian Biomaterials Society.
