Dear RACI Victorian Branch community,

The end of the year is upon us (already!) and the Branch is already eagerly planning for 2022. We are excited to be developing a ‘welcome back’ event for early in the year. This will be an in-person event open to all members. We will be using this opportunity for long-overdue networking with our colleagues, and to present our 2021 Awards. Keep an eye on your email and the website for details!

Also in 2022 is the RACI Congress, to be held in Brisbane in July. Please visit the congress website for more details. The super early-bird registration has ended, but you can still get a good deal with the early-bird prices now available. Abstracts are due by the end of February – so mark that and the other important dates in your calendar before the end of the year.

I am looking forward to 2022 with the Victorian Branch. We are eager to engage with all of you again in this COVID-normalised world we now find ourselves in. We are optimistic we can hold a suit of events from the Branch and our outstanding Groups throughout the year. I encourage you all to keep checking the website, social media channels, and your emails for details as they become available. If you are interested in joining the Branch committee to help us make this plan a reality for our members, there is still time. We are still seeking members to join and assist with our early career portfolio; our diversity and inclusion portfolio; and our social media activities. If any of these options appeal to you, email us at [email protected]. We’d love to hear from you!

I want to say a special thank-you to all the Victorian Branch members who have sat on and contributed to our committees this year – both at the Branch level and across all our Groups. You have all volunteered your time to our chemistry community and I am grateful for your contributions, your dedication, and for going above and beyond during another challenging year as we navigated rapidly changing circumstances.

Another special thank-you to the team at the RACI office who have helped us throughout the year, in-particular our state coordinator, Alyce Scanlon-Batt.
I wish all of you a lovely summer break at the end-of-the year. I hope you can spend time with family and friends and find time to decompress after another challenging year for us all.

Stay safe and take care.

Best wishes to you all!

Dr Susan Northfield
RACI VIC Branch President
