Dear RACI Victorian Branch community,

I hope you have all been safe and well this last month as we have finally ended lockdown and begun to reconnect with family and friends again. The coming months will continue to see easing of restrictions, which we at the Victorian Branch are excited to take advantage of, particularly when the new year rolls in. There will no doubt be many face-to-face events ahead for us and I look forward to meeting many of you in-person you when the opportunities arise.

Speaking of events, the Branch AGM is this Wednesday November 10th at 6pm via Zoom. There is still time for you to register to come along and hear what we have achieved this year and the plans we have for the year ahead. Importantly, we are still seeking nominees for a secretary; and early career chemists to join a working group in the Branch. Additionally, if you are interested in contributing to diversity and inclusion activities, we encourage you to consider join the Victorian Branch as well. There are exciting times ahead and we look forward to having new people join our committee and contribute to the coming year for the RACI. If you’re interested in attending the Branch AGM and/or signing up for the committee, please visit our website and register.

The national RACI AGM is also only a few weeks away. This year the National AGM will be held virtually on Wednesday December 1st. Registration is again required, so just follow this link
Another important deadline is November 30th – if you plan to attend the RACI Congress in 2022, the super early bird registration deadline is the end of this month. For more information about the Congress, please visit the website.

I am excited this month to congratulate the immediate past-President of the Victorian Branch, Dr Yvonne Mah, who has been recently elected to the RACI national board. I know Yvonne will be a stellar member of the Board and I wish her all the best in this new role!

Finally, I am saddened to report this month the passing of Emeritus Professor David G Wood AM FRACI CChem, former Professor of Chemical Engineering at The University of Melbourne, Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, and past National President of the RACI. David made substantial contributions to the RACI and to the chemistry community at large. Most recently he had been connecting with the RACI by way of the Retirees’ Group lunches. I send my condolences to David’s family and friends at this time.

Stay safe and take care.

Best wishes to you all!

Dr Susan Northfield
RACI VIC Branch President
