Dear RACI Victorian Branch community,

We are fast approaching the time of year when the RACI holds Annual General Meetings for the Branch and all our associated Groups. This year we are doing things a bit differently. Soon you will receive an email that advertises the dates for all the AGM’s, which will be all held virtually this year, and what positions on the committees are open for nominations. All the Group AGMs will be held between October 1st and November 5th, with the Branch AGM taking place on November 10th. As RACI members, you are welcome to attend any or indeed all AGMs held by the RACI. I strongly encourage you to attend to see the work being done by the Branch and all our amazing Victorian Groups and meet the volunteers who contribute their time to the activities and opportunities offered to Victorian RACI Members.

I also encourage you all to consider joining one of the Group Committees, or indeed the Branch Committee, by nominating yourself for one of the available positions when they are advertised. There will be a nomination form on the RACI website that you can download and submit for the position you are interested in.

The Victorian Branch Awards for 2021 are still open for applications. A reminder that there are a total of ten Awards on offer for 2021– eight are for individuals and two for our Groups. Applications are open until September 27th and you can either self-nominate or nominate a colleague. Visit the website to view all the Awards on offer and get your applications in soon!

Finally, the last week has demonstrated that sadly Victoria is in for another prolonged lockdown. It is incredibly difficult and frustrating for us to find ourselves in this position again. I wish you and your families all the very best. The Victorian Branch will continue to offer events and opportunities via our online platforms, and we have begun to focus on what events and engagement will look like in 2022 when we will have a large portion of our population vaccinated. Until then, we hope to see many of you at the AGMs, starting next month, and to celebrate members of our state chemistry community with the Victorian Branch Awards.

Best wishes to you all!

Dr Susan Northfield
RACI VIC Branch President
