On 2nd September, the NSW ECCG hosted a joint event with Kelly Services & Programmed professionals.  The event titled “What Does HR Look For In A Chemistry Graduate?” gave practical advice to graduates to secure their next opportunity and a good reminder to dust off and update the resume.

The event was moderated by ECCG Secretary, Jordan Mastellone, hosting Francisca Rozario and Keelie Munroe, WA RACI Branch Committee member, ran in a similar format to our previous events.  The event provided a thought-provoking presentation on what employers are looking for based on their professional knowledge.  The presentation covered topics from application to interview, giving the tips and tricks to land that next opportunity.

The presentation by Keelie gave key insights to industries affected by the recent COVID pandemic and the industries which have been able to withstand, highlighting the resilience of STEM-focused industries.  Keelie provided advice to graduates to consider temporary placements as they provide key sought-after experience which all employers are after as well as providing insight into a role before fully committing.  As always, the topic of networking arose which highlighted the need to maintain and develop a strong network throughout all career stages.  With the short timeframe that hiring managers spend on the initial review clear, concise, and targeted applications are crucial!

The second half of the event saw the brilliant minds of the event answering hot topic questions from the attendees.  The questions spanned over COVID-19 resilient industries, VISA conditioning, highlights of resume and interview techniques, and dealing with overqualification.
