Dear Members,
The RACI is seeking expressions of interest for positions as question writers for the International Chemistry Quiz (ICQ). The ICQ (formerly the Australian National Chemistry Quiz (ANCQ)) has been operated by the RACI since 1982 and has a global audience with thousands of students from over 21 countries participating every year. For more information on the ICQ, please visit the official website.
Position Overview
Writers will be tasked with developing the content for a 30-question chemistry quiz, starting in June 2025. The allocated time for students to complete the quiz is 60 minutes. We aim to form four teams of writers, to cover each of our quiz’s divisions (years 7 & 8, 9 & 10, 11 and 12), each led by a convenor, with two reviewers to ensure the quality and accuracy of the quiz.
Timeline
- Writing Period: June - August 2025
- Review Period: September - December 2025
- Finalisation: 2 January 2026
Honorarium
An honorarium will be provided as a one-off payment to recognise the contributors' efforts in writing and reviewing the ICQ 2026 quiz.
Call for Writers
We’re looking for writers who have:
- Demonstrated knowledge of and/or experience teaching high school chemistry principles.
- Ability to creatively design questions that appropriately engage a diverse range of learners, incorporating illustrations where suitable.
- Availability during the period June to August 2025.
- Passion for fostering student interest in chemistry education.
How to Apply
Please submit your expression of interest (EOI) by Friday, 11 April, 2025. To apply, click EOI Form.
RACI National will collaborate with the ICQ committee to select the writers and reviewers within two weeks after the EOI deadline. A writer meeting will be set up for the end of May 2025, to commence the writing process.
We look forward to receiving your expression of interest and working together to create an engaging and impactful quiz for the next generation of chemistry students. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to reach out.
Warm regards,
Hannah McCarthy & Claire Salmon
