The Royal Australian Chemical Institute (RACI) is proud to announce a new partnership with Knowable.Me, formalising a shared commitment to making chemistry education more accessible and inclusive across Australia.
Chemistry should be open to everyone with the curiosity to explore it. Yet students, educators, families, and community members with diverse access needs can still encounter unnecessary barriers to participating fully in the field- whether in the classroom, in professional development, or in the broader chemistry community. This partnership exists to help change that.
Why we're partnering with Knowable.Me
Knowable Me brings deep expertise in accessibility and lived experience, and a philosophy that aligns closely with RACI's own values: that inclusion should be considered from the start, not added as an afterthought, and that the people best placed to guide accessible practice are those who live it every day.
Together, we intend to approach this work by:
- Valuing lived experience as genuine expertise, not a token gesture
- Embedding accessibility into the earliest stages of our thinking, rather than retrofitting it later
- Taking a practical, respectful, and evidence-informed approach to inclusion
- Recognising that access needs are diverse, and that there is no single solution that fits everyone
What this means going forward
This partnership marks the beginning of an ongoing conversation rather than a single initiative. Specific activities will be scoped and shared as they're developed, but the intent behind all of them will remain the same: to ensure chemistry education reflects and welcomes the full diversity of the people who want to engage with it.
