The United Nations Chemicals and Waste Management Study Programme

 

Registration is now open for the United Nations Chemicals and Waste Management Study Programme, a 5-day in-person immersion in Geneva, delivered by the United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR).

This flagship programme offers participants a unique opportunity to engage directly with the global institutions shaping international chemicals and waste policy, while gaining first-hand exposure to multilateral environmental governance in a UN hub.

 

Why participate?

Hosted in Geneva – a global centre for chemicals and waste governance – the programme combines technical depth, policy insight, and professional development. Participants will interact with UN agencies, convention secretariats, and international experts working at the forefront of chemicals and waste management.

 

The programme features a carefully curated mix of:

  • Expert lectures by senior practitioners
  • Technical and policy workshops
  • Briefings and dialogues on Multilateral Environmental Agreements (MEAs)
  • Guided visits to key UN institutions
  • Career and networking sessions

Programme Content

Sessions are delivered by experts from leading Geneva-based and international institutions, which may include representatives from: The BRS and Minamata Conventions, the GFC, the IOMC, UNEP, WHO, ILO, UNECE, World Bank Group, and OECD.

Each session lasts 1–2 hours and includes interactive discussion and Q&A.

 

Who should apply?

The programme is designed for:

  • Students and recent graduates
  • Early-career professionals
  • Practitioners working on chemicals, waste, environmental policy, NGOs, public or private sector, and think tanks

 

To ensure a high-quality learning experience, participation is limited to 30 participants, allocated on a first-come, first-served basis (please note, a minimum of 20 participants required). All participants who successfully complete the programme will receive a UNITAR Certificate of Completion.
