RACI Policy Priorities Survey 2026's Results

As RACI develops its policy priorities and advocacy agenda for 2026 and beyond, we recently surveyed our members to better understand the issues they believe should be at the forefront of national policy discussions. The response was clear. Members are looking for stronger support across the chemistry workforce and education pipeline, improved research and science system governance, enhanced industrial capability and safety, and practical frameworks for the responsible use of artificial intelligence in chemistry. Participants also highlighted a range of cross-cutting challenges, including workforce shortages, declining STEM participation, skills gaps, and the need for greater national coordination across the chemistry ecosystem.

The survey findings will help shape RACI's advocacy efforts as we continue to champion the interests of the chemistry community with governments, industry, and other stakeholders. Key priorities identified by members include national chemistry workforce planning, support for school chemistry teaching and laboratory capability, funding for chemistry research, sustainable chemistry and environmental monitoring, critical minerals capability, and the development of responsible AI governance frameworks for education, research and industry. The graphic below highlights the issues that matter most and will inform RACI's policy engagement in the years ahead.
