The Asian Chemical Editorial Society (ACES) comprises twelve chemical societies from across Asia and the Pacific who coordinate their publishing activities and foster international cooperation. The organisation supports scientific collaboration, highlights the advantages of exchange and mutual enrichment, and helps to break down barriers to the free flow of ideas across borders. Together they collaborate with Wiley-VCH to publish three international journals: Chemistry-An Asian Journal, the Asian Journal of Organic Chemistry, and ChemNanoMat.
The ACES Lecture Award recognises outstanding mid-career researchers who have made significant contributions to the advancement of chemistry within ACES partner countries.
The award celebrates researchers whose work has helped shape their field and who are actively contributing to the international chemistry community through both research and engagement.
The program is supported by the Asian Chemical Editorial Society (ACES) and the family of ACES journals, including Asian Journal of Organic Chemistry, Chemistry – An Asian Journal, and ChemNanoMat.
Award Categories
Depending on the recipient’s field, the award may be presented under one of the following titles:
- Asian Journal of Organic Chemistry Lecture Award – for researchers in organic chemistry
- Chemistry – An Asian Journal Lecture Award – for researchers in other areas of chemistry
- ChemNanoMat Lecture Award – for researchers working in nanomaterials
Award Recognition
Awardees will receive:
- A monetary prize of up to €500
- An invited lecture opportunity at a national meeting of the host chemical society
- An official award certificate
- Promotion through ACES journal and society communication channels
- An invitation to submit an article to an ACES journal
The prize funding may also be used to support travel to or registration fees for the meeting where the lecture is delivered.
Eligibility
Nominees must:
- Be an active researcher at an institution in an ACES partner country
- Be at a mid-career stage, typically 15–25 years post-PhD
- Hold an independent research position (e.g., Associate Professor, Principal Investigator, or Group Leader)
- Have made significant contributions to the advancement of chemistry
- Have published at least 5% of their research output in ACES journals
- Be in good academic standing
The 15–25 year post-PhD window may be extended to account for career interruptions or delays, such as parental leave or other personal circumstances.
Selection Criteria
Recipients will be selected based on:
Primary Criteria
- Outstanding contributions to chemical research
- Impact on the development of chemistry within an ACES partner country
- Engagement with ACES journals through publication
Additional Considerations
- Mentorship and support of early-career researchers
- Contributions to the chemistry community
- Society involvement and outreach activities
Selection committees will also aim to reflect the diversity of the scientific community, including representation across research areas, institutions, and gender.
Nomination Process
A nomination should include:
- A brief nomination statement outlining the candidate’s contributions
- A CV or summary of research achievements
- Evidence of publications in ACES journals
Shortlisted candidates may be contacted for additional information if required.
Selection Process
Nominations will be reviewed and recommended by a judging panel comprised of three RACI Board members.
Promotion and Recognition
Award recipients will be highlighted through:
- RACI communication channels; and
- ACES journal platforms
