Biography
Dr Shane Stone is an industry scientist/project manager at Avicena Systems, a local Perth start-up diagnostics company. He received his PhD in Chemistry from the University of Cape Town investigating the biological conformations of gastrin and cholecystokinin peptide hormones. His first postdoctoral appointment was a mixed bag of ammonium nitrate explosives, bioactive peptides and teaching. In 2008, he emigrated from South Africa and joined PYC Therapeutics, where he retrained in molecular biology and biotechnology. Following PYC, he worked as a scientific consultant across medical research, antibiotics, and synthetic biology sectors, while undertaking project management studies. Recently he moved into the molecular diagnostics space with Avicena Systems.
Shane has broad industry experience across the biological drug discovery sector, ranging from phage-display, scaffold engineering, cancer vaccine, cell-penetrating peptide discovery and half-life extension. Since shifting to molecular diagnostics, he has embraced project management and governance approaches required for medical device design, development and manufacture.
