Stranks Memorial Lecture 2021
Professor David Leigh, University of Manchester, UK
The South Australian branch of the Chemical Education Group of the Royal Australian Chemical Institute is delighted to invite teachers and students from around Australia to a live webinar for this year’s Stranks Memorial Lecture.
These lectures commemorate Professor Donald Stranks AO who was Head of Physical and Inorganic Chemistry at the University of Adelaide from 1964 to 1973, then Vice Chancellor from 1977 until his death in 1986. He was also Foundation Chair of the RACI Chemical Education Group in SA.
The lecture interleaves the life of a keynote speaker from chemistry with principles of the SACE Stage 1 and 2 Chemistry curricula. Much of the content may also be directly applicable to other sciences and middle school year levels.
We are absolutely delighted to announce Professor David Leigh from the UK as our esteemed keynote. His presentations in consideration of the potential of molecular machines have received worldwide attention (please see abstract attached).
The lecture is proposed as a Zoom webinar, scheduled for September 9 at 5 pm local time. The lecture will be of approximately an hour duration with time at the end for questions. A Zoom link to share with colleagues and students will be sent closer to the date.
We would encourage teachers and students to attend via the link on the evening, either individually or as a class depending upon the viability of arrangements.
