Abstract
The fast-paced world of biotech can seem the complete opposite to academia, yet at the heart of both fields lies a grounding in good science. Adam will talk through his journey across continents as a postdoc, the highs and lows of grant funding, setting up a lab, learning to speak biology and ultimately, settling into his current role at PYC Therapeutics. Along the way, he will explore the different environments within academia and industry, what it takes to get a drug FDA-approved from Perth and the promise that RNA medicines hold in treating disease.
Biography
Dr Adam Martin is currently Senior Director of Chemistry at PYC Therapeutics. He has over 10 years’ experience in peptide therapeutics, encompassing therapeutic design, manufacturing, display technologies and conjugates. He currently heads PYC Therapeutic’s manufacturing and chemistry operations, in addition to its peptide discovery platform.
Dr Martin has published over 50 peer reviewed papers and is the author of several patents. He has been awarded over $5M in research grant funding and received numerous prizes, including the Nyholm Lectureship from the Royal Australian Chemical Institute and the Young Investigator Award from the Australian Biomaterials Society.
