Vale Don Jarman FRACI CChem

By Maree Stuart posted 12 days ago

It is with very deep sadness that I announce the recent passing of our treasured Honorary Life Member, Don Jarman FRACI CChem. Don was an RACI member for 76 years and was a true testament to the longevity of our society.

Don was a great supporter of the NSW Branch and many members will remember connecting with him at our Fellows and Honorary Life Members Luncheon.

Don's professional career was nothing short of impressive. He gained a Diploma in Food Technology from Sydney Technical College, having switched over from Chemical Engineering, and began his career at O T Ltd for six years before joining James Stedman Henderson (Sweetacres), which was later taken over by Rowntree Macintosh. During his 27-year tenure, Don held the positions of Chemist, Chief Chemist, and General Manager.

Following his success in the corporate world, Don established his own company, Jarman + Associates, which provided contract work for World's Finest Chocolates and Bestcare Foods in Leeton and Gunnedah. In addition, Don served on the Confectionery Manufacturers of Australasia (CMA) Technical Committee for 50 years.

In recognition of his many achievements, Don was granted an Honorary Life Membership and Fellowship to the RACI in 2005. He was always very proud (and humble) of his contribution to the profession.

Don and his wife Nancye enjoyed a wonderful life together and were married for 71 years.

Having raised 3 sons, 5 grandchildren, and 1 great grandchild, he will be sorely missed by family and friends.

A thanksgiving service will be held for Don  on Monday 22 July at 12pm at the South Chapel, Northern Suburbs Memorial Gardens & Crematorium (199 Delhi Road, North Ryde).
