Dear Chemistry Education Division member, By now we must all be into the teaching year. I hope it's going well for you! ...
Hullo everyone,
A final reminder that our AGM will be tomorrow (7th Nov 5pm AEDT). Please see previous announcements for details or you are welcome to contact me directly.
We have received one nomination for Chair-Elect, Dr Sara Kyne (UNSW) and I have provided their vision for the role below:
Vision:
My vision for the RACI Chemistry Education Division is to further the excellent previous leadership, and support chemistry education research and practice in Australia. I will aim to foster a community where every member feels valued and supported, making the Division a welcoming space for networking and giving people a sense of belonging.
I believe in the importance of being inclusive and encouraging diversity both within the Division and the broader RACI community. Supporting early career and graduate researchers, as well as teachers in chemistry education, is a key priority. I think it will be essential for our Division to promote the importance and value of chemistry education research and practice to the broader community.
Supporting secondary teachers and encouraging their participation to join the Committee and attend Division events is important for the future direction of our Division. I also plan to work closely with the incoming Chair (Dr Dino Spagnoli) to organise Division events, including the RACI Chemistry Congress 2026, and to advance the Division’s goals under Dino’s leadership.
Hullo everyone!
Sending a reminder as we are approaching our upcoming Division AGM. This is a great opportunity to hear a little bit about what we have been up to in the past year and also what's coming up as we look into 2025 and beyond.
Excitingly, every two years we advertise nominations for committee membership (both general and office-bearing). This is a great opportunity to contribute on a wider scale and build some experience in leadership at a national level. We have a number of roles available for nomination with all information (and registration process) available from the link below:
RACI Chemical Education Division 2024 AGM
One of the key roles up for nomination is the Chair-Elect. This role requires the submission of a short (250-word) statement on your vision as Chair (by email to chemed.div@raci.org.au). I will be circulating any nominations and their statement on Monday 4th November for consideration prior to the AGM on the 7th.
For any questions, please don't hesitate to post here or email me directly at chemed.div@raci.org.au
Cheers,Reyne
Hi all,
Please see below an event that might be of interest to NSW folk :)
2024 Indigenous Science Experience Community Open Day
On behalf of the National Indigenous Science Education Program (NISEP), I would like to invite you to our 2024 Indigenous Science Experience Community Open Day on Saturday August 17, 2024, hosted at the wonderful Redfern Community Centre. I have also attached a postcard that you can share with any of your colleagues, family and friends.
Below are more specific details.
Date: Saturday 17th August, 2024
Time: 10.00 am – 3.00 pm
Venue: Redfern Community Centre, 29-53 Hugo Street, Redfern
Audience: Open to the general public
The formal opening of the day (10 am) will begin with a smoking ceremony and a Welcome to Country. This annual event showcases the rich scientific and cultural knowledges of Indigenous Australians, NISEP secondary student leaders, scientists and science outreach providers, who will be providing a wide range of hands-on Indigenous and Western science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) activities.
This event acts to increase public understanding and appreciation of STEM. NISEP, hosted by Macquarie University, uses STEM to place Indigenous secondary students in leadership roles at school, community, and university-based events. NISEP aims to give Indigenous students the confidence and motivation to finish school and pursue pathways to tertiary education and employment.
NISEP is a unique collective of Aboriginal Elders and community members, university staff and students, school staff and STEM organisations working to support the educational attainment of Indigenous youth in a meaningful way.
Please have a look at last year’s video to see a little of what we have to offer: https://youtu.be/CreLBNwL7Y8
We will have a great range of new activities too.
Bookings are not required but are encouraged at: https://events.humanitix.com/indigenous-science-experience-at-redfern-community-open-day.
