Dear Bieske and O’Hair lab alumni and colleagues..
On behalf of the School of Chemistry at the University of Melbourne, and the Australian and New Zealand Society for Mass Spectrometry, we warmly invite you to attend a 2-day symposium celebrating the career contributions of Prof. Evan Bieske and Prof. Richard A.J. O’Hair to the fields of mass spectrometry, ion chemistry and spectroscopy.
Held on the occasion of their respective retirements, this symposium will honour their individual contributions to science, and recognise their legacies spanning scientific discovery, technological advancement, research training, and mentorship.
Dates: Thursday July 2nd and Friday July 3rd, 2026

Symposium registration:
Regular delegate: AUD$150.00
Student delegate: AUD$50.00

The cost of registration includes attendance at the symposium, catering during the scientific program on both days, and a ticket (inclusive of food and drinks) to attend a social event to be held near campus on the evening of Thursday July 2, 2026
Expressions of interest from registered delegates to give a scientific presentation during the symposium should be sent via email (please do not reply all) to Prof. Gavin Reid (gavin.reid@unimelb.edu.au) by Friday May 22nd, 2026. We will accommodate as many requests to present as possible during the two-day event. Please indicate in your email if an opportunity to give a talk is required for you to be able to attend the symposium.
Expressions of interest are also solicited from registered delegates to give a brief personal tribute to Evan or Richard during the evening social event. These should also be sent via email (please do not reply all) to Prof. Gavin Reid (gavin.reid@unimelb.edu.au) by Friday May 22nd, 2026.
