    New Research editor sought

    Chemistry in Australia is seeking a new editor for its Research section on a voluntary basis. 

    The role involves soliciting and editing contributions of short (200-word plus an image) general summaries of recent research co-authored by RACI members in high-impact general science and general chemistry journals (e.g. Nature, Science, Nature Chemistry, Science Advances, PNAS, JACS, Angew. Chem. Int. Ed., Chemical Science and ACS Central Science).  Approximately eight of these summaries are published in each quarterly edition.

    Supported by the Minderoo Foundation, an exciting opportunity exists for a Postdoctoral Research Fellow or Research Fellow to join the world-class research team at Queensland Alliance for Environmental Health Sciences Centre (QAEHS).

    A key QAEHS objective aims to measure plastics in complex biological media. We are therefore searching for scientists who have completed (or are nearing completion) a PhD in environmental chemistry, analytical chemistry, (eco)toxicology, or a related area, with experience in the research context. You will be able to demonstrate extensive experience in using different techniques to accurately identify particles in the nano-size range, possess a fundamental knowledge of how these techniques work and show a demonstrated aptitude to learning new technologies.

    Laboratory Technician (Rotating-Shift Work) – Western Suburbs of Melbourne

    CS Executive Group is advertising a contract position, initially under an initial labour-hire arrangement, to undertake full-time work at a globally recognised manufacturer of lubricants. The host employer is seeking a Laboratory Technician to join their Quality Control Laboratory, initially offered as a 12-month contract with an option for extension or conversion to a permanent position.

    Whilst working knowledge of general wet chemistry is desirable, the successful candidate shall receive full training. Accordingly, given the nature of the industrial work environment, candidates who can demonstrate they are hard-working, dependable, and display initiative and loyalty will be highly regarded.

    The training usually requires 4–12 weeks and during that period working hours are 6:30 am until 2:30 pm during weekdays. Subsequently, once signed off as competent to undertake all the requisite QC testing techniques, work will be according to a roster on a rotating shift: –

    • Two Weeks – 6:00am to 2:00pm, Monday–Friday
    • Two Weeks – 2:00pm to 10:00pm, Monday–Friday

    NOTE: An appropriate loading is applicable on the hourly pay rate for all hours worked on the afternoon shift.

    To be successful in your application you will need to meet the following criteria: -

    • A recent graduate with a Bachelor of Science in chemistry or similar
      (e.g., Diploma or Cert IV in Chemistry with a few years' experience within a laboratory)
    • Experience with wet chemistry and the ability to adhere to WH&S guidelines
      • Well-developed interpersonal skills and a flexible "can do" attitude
      • You will possess excellent time-management skills, attention to detail and the capability to multitask effectively
      • Key to this role is a strong work ethic, and initiative whilst working autonomously or as part of a team

      We are looking for an operator to join the laboratory team. The operator will participate in every aspect of the industrial research experimentation:

      · preparation of job safety analyses,
