Adrien Albert Award

The Adrien Albert Award is the premier award of the MCCB Division and is given for sustained, outstanding research in the field of medicinal chemistry or chemical biology. The research upon which the award is made must be conducted wholly, or largely, within Australia and New Zealand. The award is open to all members of the RACI.

The award winner will be invited to present a lecture at the next RACI Medicinal Chemistry & Chemical Biology Division Conference to showcase their research to the medicinal chemistry and chemical biology community in Australia. The conference registration costs of the award winner will be covered.

The winner will be selected by a panel of at least 4 judges (with gender balance), who are members of the RACI Medicinal Chemistry & Chemical Biology Division.

Nominations for the award can be made by any member of the RACI, however self nominations are not eligible.

Nominations must include the following information:

  • names of (i) award nominee and (ii) nominator;
  • curriculum vitae of nominee;
  • concise statement of the nominee’s impacts and contribution to medicinal chemistry and/or chemical biology research;
    list of published research papers, and any other material relevant to the nomination; and names of two referees with detailed knowledge of the nominee’s impact and contributions.

Nominations are to be submitted online (link on this page).

Members will be advised when nominations open for submission.

Following the deadline, no additional applications or nominations for the award will be considered.

If the selection committee determines that no candidate demonstrates adequate merit, they reserve the right to abstain from granting the award.

Formerly known as The Biota Award for Medicinal Chemistry

This award recognises innovation in the development of small molecules as potential therapeutic agents or chemical probes by RACI members who are within 15 years of being awarded their PhD.

The award, formerly known as the Biota Award for Medicinal Chemistry, has been renamed in recognition of Professor Peter Andrews’ seminal contribution to the Division as well as to medicinal chemistry in Australia. To be eligible for the award, the candidate must be a financial RACI member. No candidate may be nominated more than once.

The award winner will be invited to present a lecture at the next RACI Medicinal Chemistry & Chemical Biology Division Conference to showcase their research to the medicinal chemistry and chemical biology community in Australia. The conference registration costs of the award winner will be covered.

The successful nominee will be selected by a panel of at least 4 judges (with gender balance), who are members of the RACI Medicinal Chemistry & Chemical Biology Division. If required, the judges will sign appropriate confidentiality agreements to preserve the intellectual property rights of the nominees. The award may be shared if the judges agree that more than one nominee is equally worthy of the award.

Nominations for the award can be made by any member of the RACI, however self nominations are not eligible.
